Enjoy the harvest of summer, what Jefferson described as “precious refreshment.” Garden staff will entertain participants with the fruits of summer: early apples, peaches, figs, grapes, melons, pears and others. Short talks on the history of fruit growing in Virginia will vary the menu in this informal two-hour feast.

Thomas Jefferson
"it turns out that our fruit has not been as entirely killed as was at first apprehended. some latter blossoms have yeilded a small supply of this precious refreshment." --to James Madison, May 15. 1794
